Scilla (ex chinodoxa) forbesii

Scilla forbesii, long classified in the genus Chionodoxa as Chionodoxa forbesii, is a bulbous plant native to western Turkey. Each bulb produces two narrow basal leaves around ten centimetres long and a flowering stem rarely exceeding 10-15 cm. As winter ends, it bears a loose cluster of 4 to 10 upward-facing, star-shaped, six-tepalled flowers, blue-violet with a white centre. Known as "glory of the snow", it grows well in full sun or part shade, on well-drained soil, and naturalises readily by self-seeding.
