Libertia chilensis (Iridaceae) is an evergreen rhizomatous perennial from central and southern Chile, the Juan Fernández Islands and southern Argentina, where it grows beside watercourses and in damp ground up to 2,000 m. It forms clumps 60 cm to 1 m high of leathery, blue-green sword-shaped leaf fans. In late spring, upright stems carry clusters of white, bowl-shaped flowers about 3 cm across with pale yellow anthers. Grow in full sun in well-drained but moisture-retentive soil; it dislikes prolonged frost.
