Iris florence

Often sold under a shortened name evoking "Florence", this iris corresponds to Iris pallida 'Florentina', a historic variety grown in Tuscany for its rhizomes, the source of orris root used in perfumery. Its highly fragrant, white flowers tinged with very pale blue open in spring above glaucous, fan-shaped foliage. Once classified under Iris germanica as Iris florentina, it is now considered a form of Iris pallida. It grows in full sun, in well-drained soil even if calcareous, rhizome at the surface, with good tolerance of summer drought.
