Iris crocea, or golden iris, formerly known as Iris aurea, is a rhizomatous iris of the spuria group, native to Kashmir and the western Himalaya. It is distinguished by its large, bright golden-yellow flowers, borne in late spring on sturdy stems that can exceed a metre, above narrow, upright fan-shaped foliage. Vigorous and hardy, it is grown in full sun, in deep, fertile soil kept moist during the growing season, and tolerates winter cold well.
