Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
The epithet uniflorum, "single-flowered," describes the most widespread bulb in the Ipheion-Nothoscordum-Tristagma complex: each stalk bears only one fragrant star-shaped flower, from white to blue-violet depending on the cultivated form. Native to Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil, this small plant with narrow, scented foliage flowers from late winter to spring and naturalises readily into mats. Depending on classification, it is listed as Ipheion uniflorum, Nothoscordum uniflorum, or Tristagma uniflorum. Grow in well-drained soil, sun to partial shade.
