Ipheion uniflorum

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
Ipheion uniflorum, the most widespread bulb in the Ipheion-Nothoscordum-Tristagma complex, is native to Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil. Its narrow, scented foliage precedes a short stalk bearing a single fragrant star-shaped flower, ranging from white to deep blue-violet depending on the many selected cultivars. Flowering occurs from late winter to spring. Hardy and undemanding, it naturalises easily via offsets, forming dense mats over the years in borders, rockeries, or light woodland cover. Grow in well-drained, sunny soil.
