End of the season question

Very often we are asked the question: “Why finish the planting season so “early”?
Especially as journalists (and Dutch exporters) encourage their readers to plant bulbs in Octobre and Novembre. In our méditerranean climat the optimal time of planting is before the first September (end of summer) rains begin. This will allow the plants to establish a good rooting system, which is not adequate with a late (especially November) planting. Of course next year all will return in order when the plants takes up its natural cycle.
As a nursery we want to preserve our unsold stock by planting them in acceptable conditions (for the same reasons as explained above). The smaller sizes are planted in August and developing nicely during the ideals conditions iof late summer/early autumn.
