Agapanthus praecox subsp. orientalis 'Azure' is a cultivar selected for the strong azure-blue colour of its flowers. It keeps the habit of the South African species: an evergreen clump of broad, arching strap-shaped leaves topped in summer by large, dense umbels of funnel-shaped flowers. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil; the plant tolerates drought well once established but dislikes prolonged frost in open ground.
