Agapanthus inapertus hollandii

Agapanthus inapertus subsp. hollandii grows naturally in the highlands of Mpumalanga (the Lydenburg, Graskop and Pilgrim's Rest areas) in South Africa, in open grassland on well-drained soil with abundant summer rainfall. A deciduous perennial with leaves borne on a distinct stem, it produces from January to March an erect stalk up to 1.5 m tall, topped by an umbel of narrow, tubular, drooping flowers in dark blue to violet. It needs full sun, well-drained soil and some moisture during its summer growing season.
