Lycoris albiflora

Anemone apennina (Ranunculaceae) is a rhizomatous perennial native to southern Europe, from the Apennines to Greece. Its finely cut foliage, downy beneath, dies back in summer. In early spring it produces solitary, star-shaped blue flowers with 10-15 narrow petals, sometimes white in the 'Albiflora' form. It quickly forms dense carpets in light woodland. Grow in part shade, in cool, humus-rich soil, beneath shrubs or deciduous trees; hardy and easy, it self-seeds freely.
