Allium cristophii (syn. Allium albopilosum, Amaryllidaceae), also known as star of Persia, is native to Iran, Turkmenistan and Central Asia. On short stems 30 to 40 cm tall, it opens large, loose umbels in late spring, up to 20 cm across, made up of numerous star-shaped flowers in metallic lilac. The broad, hairy leaves wither as flowering begins. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil; excellent for drying.
