Albuca

Albuca shawii (Asparagaceae) is a small South African species found from the Eastern Cape to Limpopo, on cliffs and rocky grassland up to 2400 m. Growing to about 30 cm, it has narrow leaves covered in sticky hairs that smell of aniseed when crushed, and small, scented, nodding yellow flowers striped with green, from spring through summer. It grows in summer and rests in winter. Grow in full sun in lean, well-drained soil; very drought-tolerant once established.
