Albuca flaccida ex canadensis

Native to South Africa rather than Canada, despite the old epithet 'canadensis' sometimes attached to this plant — likely a historical mix-up over an abbreviated locality label — Albuca flaccida is a deciduous, summer-dormant, drought-tolerant bulb. It reaches 20 to 40 cm in height and, unlike most Albuca, often produces two or more flower scapes per bulb. In spring it bears a nodding raceme of yellow flowers typical of the genus, the outer tepals keeping a central green stripe, and much visited by bees. It grows best in gritty, lean, well-drained soil, in full sun, with reduced watering during summer dormancy.
