Allium

Allium 'Globemaster' (Amaryllidaceae) is a sterile hybrid raised by crossing Allium macleanii with Allium cristophii, selected by Jan Bijl. It produces enormous spherical umbels, up to 25 cm across, made up of hundreds of small star-shaped florets in lavender-purple with a metallic sheen, carried on sturdy stems 60 to 90 cm tall in late spring. Being seedless, it does not self-sow. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil; excellent for drying.
