Allium

Allium cernuum (Amaryllidaceae), the nodding onion, is native to North America, where it grows in prairies and open woodland. Growing 30 to 50 cm tall, it is distinctive for its flower stem, which curves like a shepherd's crook at the top, bearing a loose umbel of slightly drooping pink to purple flowers in summer (July–August). Easy to grow in full sun to part shade, in cool, well-drained soil; hardy, nectar-rich, and well suited to naturalistic plantings.
