Allium stipitatum (Amaryllidaceae) is native to Central Asia (Iran, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan), where it grows on dry hillsides. It is one of the tallest ornamental alliums: sturdy stems 80 to 120 cm high carry large, spherical late-spring umbels (May–June), 15 to 20 cm across, of star-shaped violet-lilac flowers. It is also the parent of many hybrid cultivars. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil.
