Allium falcifolium

Endemic to northern California and southern Oregon, where it colonises rocky, often serpentine soils, Allium falcifolium is a small bulbous geophyte of the family Amaryllidaceae (subfamily Allioideae). It typically produces two fleshy leaves curved like a scythe blade (hence its name), and a short stem bearing a dense umbel of 10 to 30 star-shaped flowers in pink, reddish-purple, or streaked white and purple. It flowers in late spring and summer. It thrives in full sun and poor, stony, sharply drained soil, with a pronounced dry summer dormancy.
