Allium 'Gladiator' is a vigorous hybrid derived from A. macleanii, producing large, 15 cm spherical umbels of rich purple-lilac in early summer, densely packed with small star-shaped florets that open from the top downward. Sturdy stems reach 90-120 cm above broad, bright green basal leaves that often wither before flowering. Best planted in groups in full sun and well-drained soil, it attracts bees and butterflies and makes an excellent cut flower.
