Allium globus

Allium 'Globus' is a garden cultivar of ornamental onion, likely derived from Allium hollandicum, selected for a more compact habit than other "giant" alliums. The plant, about 45-60 cm tall, produces broad grey-green basal leaves that wither as flowering progresses. In early summer a dense, spherical umbel up to 15 cm across appears, composed of numerous small, fragrant, pink-purple star-shaped flowers. Like other ornamental Alliums, it requires full sun, well-drained soil, and is planted in autumn.
