Allium phaneranterum

Allium phanerantherum is a bulbous species native to southern Turkey (Hatay region), growing on dry hillsides on calcareous or serpentine substrates. A subspecies, subsp. involucratum, has been described from the same area, distinguished by bracts forming an involucre at the base of the umbel. Like most eastern Mediterranean alliums, it produces a small tunicated bulb, narrow leaves and a flowering stem bearing a globular umbel of star-shaped flowers in late spring. Rarely cultivated, it requires sharp drainage and a hot, sunny position.
