Aloes bakeri

Endemic to Madagascar, Aloe bakeri is a small succulent Asphodelaceae forming clumps of multiple rosettes with narrow, tapering, green to reddish-green leaves heavily mottled with white and edged with fine white teeth. The plant reaches only 10-20 cm in height with a spread of about 40 cm. Flowering occurs in summer, producing red or orange, green-tipped tubular flowers on spikes about 30 cm tall, attractive to birds and insects. Listed on CITES Appendix I, it is grown in very free-draining, gritty soil, in full sun to light shade, with moderate watering and a drier winter rest.
