Alstroemeria longistamina

Native to the Chilean Andes, Alstroemeria longistaminea (spelled longistamina on the label) is a rhizomatous perennial found along forest edges, meadows and rocky banks. Creeping rhizomes send up erect stems with lanceolate foliage and, in late austral spring to summer, umbels of bright yellow flowers with the long, protruding stamens that give the species its name, the upper tepals sometimes flecked with brown. It requires a sunny to part-shaded position, cool, well-drained, humus-rich soil, and dies back after flowering, the rhizomes persisting underground through the resting period.
