Amaryllis paradisicola

Endemic to the Richtersveld in South Africa's Northern Cape, where it grows on shaded quartzite cliffs, Amaryllis paradisicola is a rare bulbous plant in the Amaryllidaceae family, described only in 2011. Broad, hairy, tongue-shaped leaves accompany, in April, an umbel of 10 to 21 fragrant flowers, purplish-pink and darkening with age, with a scent recalling narcissus. Known from a single population, it is considered vulnerable. It requires a part-shaded position, well-drained soil, and dry summer dormancy.
