Crocus ancyrensis (Iridaceae), the Ankara crocus, is a small cormous plant native to central and northern Turkey. From late winter onward, each corm produces several fragrant, deep golden-yellow, cup-shaped flowers held in a compact cluster just above narrow, silver-striped leaves. Very floriferous and early to bloom, it flowers alongside snowdrops and suits rock gardens, borders and naturalizing in lawns. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil; hardy and easy, it self-seeds and multiplies readily.
