Anemone apennina albiflora

Foliage deep purple when emerging, later turning dark green. The storage organ is a fleshy rhizomatous root mostly presented as a rather uninspiring black shrivelled 'lump'. However, once well installed in shaded well drained woodland positions it is a very attractive and faithfully returning plant. The outside of the flowers is pale blue - the inside glistening white. As the flowers open and close every day, the colour changes between pale blue and white. Its origins are from the mountains in Italy, which confers a good hardiness et resistence to summer drought. The species replaces A. blanda which was not succesful in the nursery.
