Anemone hortensis (Ranunculaceae) is a tuberous perennial from the Mediterranean basin, found from Spain to Turkey. Its palmate foliage, divided into 3-5 toothed lobes, precedes solitary, fragrant flowers 3-6 cm across, ranging from bluish-white to purplish-pink, carried on 20-40 cm stems in spring. It grows naturally in scrubland and dry grassland. Grow in full sun, in well-drained, chalky soil; plant the tubers in autumn.
