Anredera cordifolia — Madeira vine
The big potato like tubers grow near the surface. The vines with succulent light green cordate leaves can be quite vigorous and climb on any thing within their reach. Ideal for covering pergolas, trees (dead or alive), old glass houses, sheds etc. Towards the end of the summer appear the long racemes with a multitude of small white odorous flowers. In a well drained position the tubers will grow and multiply very quickly. Below, a picture shows how after two years the tubers litterally 'bulge' out of the ground. The leaves can be used as a vegetable.
