The genus Anredera (Basellaceae) comprises about a dozen species of tuberous climbing vines native to tropical and subtropical America, the most widely grown being Anredera cordifolia, the Madeira vine. These fast-growing climbers develop fleshy, heart-shaped foliage and small, fragrant white flowers in drooping clusters in late summer. They also produce aerial tubers along the stems. They are grown in full sun to part shade, on well-drained soil, with a support to climb.
