Cypella aquatilis (Iridaceae), the yellow water orchid, is a bulbous plant native to southern Brazil, growing in streams and along riverbanks. In summer it bears bright yellow, goblet-shaped flowers with recurved inner segments marked by a yellowish band and fine streaks, borne on stems to 50 cm. As with other Cypella, each flower lasts only a day but is renewed in succession. Grow in full sun, in rich, moist to waterlogged soil; protect from frost, growing in pots in cold regions.
