Aristea macrocarpa is a synonym of Aristea bakeri, an evergreen, rhizomatous Iridaceae from southern Africa, found on rocky, sandstone slopes from the northwestern and southwestern to the eastern Cape province. It forms clumps of narrow, fibrous, sword-shaped leaves 6 to 20 mm wide, borne on rounded, often much-branched stems reaching 0.6 to 1.8 m. The spathes and bracts are rust-brown with transparent margins. From late spring into summer it bears numerous short-lived but freely produced blue flowers; in the wild, fire stimulates flowering. It requires well-drained soil and full sun.
