Arthropodium cirrhatum

Endemic to New Zealand, where it grows on coastal rocky slopes and woodland margins, Arthropodium cirrhatum (renga lily) forms clumps of long, arching, glossy, strap-shaped leaves 30-60 cm long. From late spring into summer, loose panicles on 30-60 cm stems bear numerous small, pendent, white to pink-blushed flowers with showy, woolly white-and-purple stamens tipped with curved yellow spurs. Tolerant of salt spray, it thrives in bright or dry shade beneath trees and is a mainstay of coastal gardens.
