The genus

The genus has about 25 species covering most of Europe, Africa and East to West China. With the exception of A. pictum all bloom in spring or early summer. Most will grow quite well outdoors in a full to partly shade site, but avoid hot locations. Once planted they are happy for a long time and will not wander except by seed.
