Babiana pattersonii

The name likely corresponds to Babiana patersoniae, a cormous plant of the family Iridaceae, endemic to the Eastern and Western Cape of South Africa, where it grows on clay or loamy slopes in grassland and renosterveld. This geophyte, 15-25 cm tall, has hairy lanceolate leaves and an upright, sometimes branched stem. In spring it produces fragrant flowers, white to pale blue or mauve, with the lower tepals often tinged cream to yellow and marked purple at the base, and blue-black anthers. It is grown in full sun on well-drained soil, with summer dormancy.
