Babiana sp nova

The precise identity of this plant has not been established; it may represent an as-yet-undescribed species of the genus Babiana, family Iridaceae, endemic to southern Africa, where about 90 species are recorded, concentrated in the south-western Cape and Namaqualand. These are cormous geophytes with pleated, hairy leaves, growing through winter and flowering in late winter to spring before a strict summer dormancy. The flowers, borne in spikes, are often fragrant and vary widely in colour (blue, violet, white, cream, orange). Like most Babiana, it would be grown in full sun on well-drained soil, kept dry in summer.
