Belamcanda chinensis

Native to China and Japan, Belamcanda chinensis (blackberry lily or leopard flower) is a rhizomatous perennial with fan-shaped, iris-like foliage. From late summer into autumn it bears numerous small, bright orange flowers speckled with red, each lasting only a day but continuously renewed on branching stems about 1 m tall. After flowering, seed pods split open to reveal clusters of glossy black seeds resembling a blackberry. Hardy and easy to grow, it thrives in well-drained soil in sun or partial shade.
