Brunsvigia radulosa

Native to the grasslands of southern Africa — South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini and Botswana — Brunsvigia radulosa, or candelabra lily, grows from a large bulb 6 to 10 cm across with hard, brown tunics. Its 4 to 6 thick, rough leaves (hence the epithet radulosa) spread flat on the ground, often present at flowering time. From December to February a spectacular umbel of up to 75 stalked, pink to pale purple flowers is borne on a thick, flattened stalk. It requires well-drained soil, a sunny position, and a pronounced dry winter dormancy.
