Bulbinella caudifelis

Widespread in South Africa's Cape Province, Bulbinella cauda-felis, or cat's tail bulbinella, grows in renosterveld and karoo vegetation on shale or clay soils in the winter-rainfall region. This Asphodelaceae exceeds 50 cm, with up to ten narrow, bluish leaves with a dilated sheath. From August to December it produces a long, dense, tapering raceme of small white flowers with a pink midrib, opening from pink buds. Pale brown capsules hold near-black seeds. It thrives in full sun with well-drained soil and a dry summer rest.
