Bulbinella latifolia

Native to the Northern and Western Cape of South Africa, where it forms large stands in seasonally flooded ground, Bulbinella latifolia (Asphodelaceae) is a robust perennial to 1 m tall, with thickened fleshy roots and a fibrous neck. It differs from its close relative B. nutans in its taller habit and broader, spreading, bright green fleshy leaves arranged in a rosette. In spring, a long, dense raceme bears numerous yellow star-shaped flowers. It requires full sun, cool to moist soil in winter and spring, and dry summer dormancy.
