Calochortus sp ?

The precise identity of this species remains uncertain; it is offered here under the generic name Calochortus. This North American genus of about 70 species in the lily family includes the mariposa lilies, globe lilies and star tulips. From a bulb, one or a few narrow leaves and a slender stem bear, in spring or early summer, one to several open, cup-shaped flowers with highly variable colors and markings depending on the species. It grows in well-drained, often stony soil, in full sun, with a winter growth cycle and a strictly dry summer rest period.
