The correct name for this species is Caloscordum neriniflorum (sometimes reclassified as Allium neriniflorum), native to south-eastern Siberia and northern China. It is a bulbous plant with a solitary, rounded bulb about 2 cm across, wrapped in membranous tunics, producing hollow, cylindrical foliage as long as the flowering stem, which reaches up to 50 cm. It flowers late in summer, bearing an airy umbel of star-shaped, pink to purplish-pink flowers reminiscent of a miniature Nerine — hence its epithet. Unlike its close Allium relatives, it lacks a pronounced garlic scent. It needs well-drained soil, a sunny position, and dry winter dormancy.
