Calydorea C95

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
The label "C95" refers to an internal nursery code rather than an identified species; this entry therefore describes the genus Calydorea as a whole. This small genus of bulbous Iridaceae, centred on temperate South America but also found in Mexico and Florida, comprises around twenty species with tunicated bulbs, flowering in spring or summer. The short-lived flowers are blue, violet, white or yellow depending on species, with subequal tepals spreading from the base. Grown in well-drained soil, sunny position, dry dormancy outside the growing season. Species not confirmed with certainty; description given at genus level.
