Colchicum longifolium /neopllitanum

Native to southern France and northwestern Italy, with populations in Corsica and Sardinia, Colchicum longifolium (sometimes confused with C. neapolitanum, of which it was long considered a variety) is a cormous perennial. Leafless flowers in mid to deep rose-pink, with curved white styles and yellow anthers, appear in September and October, before the characteristic foliage of long, narrow, slightly folded leaves produced after flowering. It grows well in sun to part shade, in well-drained, calcareous soil, with a dry summer rest period.
