Conanthera bifolia

Endemic to Chile, where it is distributed from the Valparaíso to Araucanía regions, Conanthera bifolia is a bulbous perennial in the family Tecophilaeaceae, whose roots were traditionally harvested as a vegetable. Two basal leaves accompany a stem bearing a paniculate inflorescence of bell-shaped flowers, white to blue-violet, sometimes spotted, with six tepals and six stamens. Flowering occurs in April, at the end of the austral summer. It grows well in full sun, in light, well-drained soil, with a dry rest period after flowering.
