Crocus corsicus (Iridaceae) is a cormous plant endemic to northern and central Corsica and to Sardinia, growing in mountain rocky habitats. From January to April it bears one or two fragrant, slender flowers, reddish-violet inside and buff feathered with dark purple outside, with a bright orange stigma. Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, it is a popular choice for rock gardens. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil that stays dry in summer; hardy and easy to naturalize.
