Crinum mauritanica ??

The precise identification of this Crinum, noted 'mauritanica ??' on the original tag, could not be confirmed: it may be a misspelling of Crinum mauritianum, a species endemic to Mauritius, rediscovered in 1973 after being thought extinct, and now critically endangered. The description is therefore given cautiously at genus level, Crinum: a large bulb, broad strap-like foliage, notably erect and stiff in C. mauritianum, and a stem bearing an umbel of fragrant, star-shaped flowers, white in this species. It requires a sunny to part-shaded position and cool to moist soil.
