Crinum variabile

Native to Namaqualand in South Africa's Northern Cape Province, also occurring in the Bokkeveld Mountains and the western Karoo, Crinum variabile, sometimes called the river lily, is a perennial bulbous plant in the family Amaryllidaceae. Evergreen in the wild but usually deciduous in cultivation, it grows during winter, the rainy season across its native range. It produces large, strongly scented white flowers with a long floral tube exceeding 30 mm, opening more fully at night to attract hawkmoth pollinators. Propagation remains difficult, as seed viability is short-lived. It needs well-drained soil, full sun, winter watering, and dry summer dormancy.
