Bloomeria crocea (Asparagaceae), known as golden stars, is a bulbous plant endemic to southern California and northern Baja California. From late spring to early summer it bears an umbel of numerous small, star-shaped, bright yellow flowers with a green midrib on the reverse, carried on a slender stem above narrow, strap-shaped leaves. Grow in full sun, in sandy, rich, sharply drained soil; drought-tolerant in summer, but sensitive to frost below about -4 °C.
