Crocosmia

Crocosmia aurea (Iridaceae) is a cormous plant native to southern and eastern Africa, growing at moist forest margins. In late summer it produces arching stems bearing spikes of star-shaped, golden-orange flowers with spreading petals. It is one of the parent species of the garden montbretia (C. × crocosmiiflora). Grow in part shade, in rich, moist soil; hardy to around -8 °C with good winter mulch.
