Crocosmia aurea — Montbretia, falling stars
Makes a lot of vigorous stolons and it is recommended that the plant is not disturbed for several years. Flowers with long, narrow, bright orange petals, in late summer and autumn. As its winter dormancy period is shorter than most other Crocosmia species, it is less at ease in colder climates.
The genus
Crocosmia is also known under the name of Montbretia (although this name often refers to the small flowered cultivars). A very popular genus from the eastern part of South Africa. On condition that summerwater is provided and mulch protection during the winter is given, they are easy to grow.
