Crocosmia crocosmiiflora

Crocosmia × crocosmiiflora is a horticultural hybrid raised in France in 1880 by Victor Lemoine from two South African species, Crocosmia aurea and Crocosmia pottsii. A cormous perennial, it forms a dense clump of sword-shaped, basally pleated leaves reaching 60-80 cm. In summer, arching spikes bear numerous tubular flowers with six spreading tepals, bright orange with a yellow throat. Very hardy and vigorous, it has naturalised in many temperate regions. It needs a sunny position and soil that drains well but stays moist during the growing season.
